Mazda Motorsports recently announced the 2016 full-season driver lineup for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. I’m ecstatic to be with the prototype program again for 2016, and to co-drive with Joel Miller for another season.
One thing that is changing this year is our car number, which will be SpeedSource’s iconic number 70. The 70 is symbolic because SpeedSource has won the Rolex 24 at Daytona twice with that number. Our teammates, meanwhile, will be paying tribute to the 25th anniversary of Mazda’s 24 Hours of LeMans victory by running the number 55, which is the same number of that winning car in 1991.
This week starts the season at Daytona with the Roar Before the 24 practice, and the Rolex 24 at Daytona is only three short weeks away! Be sure to check back next week for a progress report from the Roar Before the 24, as well as the announcement about our third co-driver for Daytona.
While the excitement of 2016 is growing, it’s also a great time to look back on these defining moments of 2015. Here’s to an even more exciting 2016!
Tom,
Happy New Year and congratulations on the prototype ride for 2016…that is a big deal and I am sure is well deserved.
Jesse broke his hand in three places skiing over the holidays but still hopes to be in a ThorSport truck for the season. That should be known soon.
Hope you are selling plenty of Mazdas out of Statesville. That series should be interesting…will you be running a car?
Best, Dixon
