Later this week is the annual Grassroots Motorsports Ultimate Track Car Challenge. Once again this year, Long Road Racing will be entering a Global Mazda MX-5 Cup Car with some new, exciting additions. Last year, they introduced the SADEV sequential gearbox, and this year they are taking it one step further with a supercharger package that adds 60-wheel horsepower.
I can attest that this package certainly delivers that extra punch! It’s a blast to drive, and it adds 10mph to the top speed of the car. I’ve been fortunate to be doing the setup and reliability testing, and it has been tremendous. The car hasn’t missed a beat, and it’s been a seamless process for me as a driver. All the hard work the Long Road Racing guys put in to deliver a clean fit-and-finish package shows, and it gives it a turnkey upgrade.
With the Track Car Challenge being a time trial format, the mindset is a bit different than a race. We’re going for a single lap time, very similar to what qualifying would be like for a race event. We’ll be making setup changes to deliver an outright lap time, though in our testing we have been able to run for extended times with seamless performance and consistency.
If it sounds like an enticing package, you’re right! Long Road Racing will be delivering this as a kit for MX-5 owners after the conclusion of this event. It is sure to spice up any ND MX-5 on the street or track. You can follow our progress multiple ways: through the Long Road Racing Facebook page or through UltimateTrackCar.com.
