This past Friday was a really rewarding day of coaching for me. I was at Virginia International Raceway for a private track day, and I was instructing drivers of varying skill levels.
Some of these drivers are just getting into driving on a track and learning what it’s all about, while others are experienced track drivers trying to get more out of themselves and their cars. Whether people just want to enjoy their street car on a road course or shave a few tenths off their lap times – or anything in between – Friday was a great reminder that you can enjoy this sport at any level.
We had gorgeous weather and the opportunity to drive some really fun cars. Plus, I got the chance to share my experiences within racing to help the drivers get the most out of their day. With some of the more advanced drivers, we even did some good old data overlay comparisons to help them extract some more time out of their driving.
It’s fun to coach drivers at all levels of the experience spectrum, all in one track event! After a successful day at the track with all of these drivers, it really made me appreciate the sport because it can be enjoyed in so many different ways and at so many different skill levels. I also appreciate the desire that everyone has to get better, no matter what their experience level is. It’s rewarding for me to have the opportunity to play a role in each driver’s development and enjoyment.
