After an emphasis on my own racing during the last several weeks (which I’m very grateful for!), this past week was my first one back as a driver coach instead of a racer. I coached guests at the Ingram Driving Experience at Virginia International Raceway during the week, and I worked with clients at Road Atlanta during the weekend.
This was the first time I’ve gotten to see the Ingrams and all their driving guests in 2022, and they have an exciting program this season, with multiple Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsports now in their event fleet that guests can utilize.
It was also the first time I’ve gotten to work with some of my longtime coaching clients this season! I went down to Road Atlanta to work with Reg Williams and Rob Trollinger. It was an SVRA vintage racing event as well as round two of the International GT Series.
Reg is campaigning his beautiful Porsche GT3R in the IGT Series, and Rob was racing not only his classic air-cooled Porsche but also his Spec Miata. Since the Miata is 20 years old, it is now deemed a “vintage car.” I got my racing start in Spec Miata, so yes, the fact it’s now considered vintage does make me feel a little old!
It felt really nice to be working with so many great friends over the course of the past week, helping them continue to go faster and further refining their race craft. It’s fun to take some of my most recent racing experiences and apply them to my coaching, which helps my clients gain insight. Being at the track with coaching clients was a welcome change of pace and, of course, a familiar scene since I’m fortunate enough to have so many great coaching relationships. I’m excited to see what the season brings for all of them!
