Last week we wrapped another Ingram Experience event at Virginia International Raceway. The semi-private driving events they host are always so much fun because of the variety of cars, the people, and the low car count on track, which gives a really exclusive feel to the track day.
Not only can participants bring their own street or track car, but they can also rent one of the cars available. The choices include a fleet of the new Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport race cars or one of the older 911 manual-shift 997 race cars. The Ingrams have a really well-respected Porsche collection, so it’s no surprise that participants have a variety of Porsches to choose from!
With the rental, not only do participants get the car, but they get professional coaching, too. This coaching aspect is where I come in: I’m one of the coaches who has the pleasure of helping drivers meet and exceed their goals. The cars are equipped with a video and data system to enable review after each driving session, which is another bonus. A lead-follow format to start the day allows drivers to come up to speed gradually, learning the car and the track, prior to running on their own. Of course, the experienced drivers may not need the lead-follow component as much, which is where the video and data review really come into play.
I always enjoy these Ingram events, especially at this time of year, with the incredible weather we get at VIR. It’s also great to work with the special guests who come out and make the event even more exciting. You never know who you’re going to meet, but I’m not going to do any name-dropping today!
