This past weekend was my first time back at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park—affectionately known as Mosport—since 2019. It was good to be there again, since that iconic track north of the border holds a lot of great memories for me, including IMSA wins and the incredible fast flow and elevation changes that circuit provides. I especially have great memories of driving the Mazda prototype at Mosport.
The level of excitement was no different for Mazda MX-5 Cup this past weekend, with amazing racing throughout the field. It was especially thrilling because the lead pack was as deep as 10 or more cars during the two 45-minute contests. We had two second-time winners throughout the weekend, and some new faces emerged on the podium in race two, which is always fantastic to see.
In addition to the incredible racing, we also saw a big shift in the championship points battle. There are now only four rounds left, and it’s still anybody’s title to grab, with the same going for Rookie of the Year honors. The standings have certainly had a lot of twists over the last several rounds, and we expect even more in the final races of the season.
The series heads to my home track of Virginia International Raceway next. After that, there’s a much-anticipated test an hour from VIR at Martinsville Speedway. The press day for that is this week, so stay tuned for some exciting announcements!
