This past weekend was a fun one down in Sebring, Florida, at the SRO World Challenge event. It was the first time this series has visited Sebring, and although it wasn’t spring weather like we have for the 12 Hours of Sebring weekend, the weather was fantastic, and we had lots of great racing.
I was there with Forbush Performance, and we had a test day to kick off the event, which was really nice because it gave us time to put an extra focus on car setup and shakedown since our last event at Watkins Glen didn’t end the way we’d hoped it would. I was really encouraged by the performance of the car on the test day and thought we were in a good place moving forward into the race weekend.
Our drivers did a terrific job of meeting their laptime goals, which was really encouraging and rewarding to see. The team even ended up with its best results to date in SprintX competition, earning a fourth-place finish.
On the Touring Car side, Luke Rumberg had a phenomenal event, winning race one and finishing runner-up in race two on Sunday. This really boosted him in the points championship. Unfortunately, his teammate Caleb Bacon had a weekend troubled by mechanical problems, which resulted in a disappointing event for him.
The points championship has gotten even more competitive in the wake of the Sebring results. While Caleb is still leading the championship, the points race is really heating up going into Indy in two weeks’ time.
