Last week I was at Sebring International Raceway once again, this time for the official Carrera Cup test to kick off their 2023 season. This test was in preparation for the series’ first two races of the year, which take place this week during the 12 Hours of Sebring event. It feels funny to visit Sebring so many times in such a short span of time, but I’m not complaining about getting to travel to Florida in the winter months!

My main focus at the test was working with a new driver to the series, Elias De La Torre, who is making his IMSA debut at just 17 years old. Elias is running with the JDX racing team, who is currently the reigning Carrera Cup champion. The team has a wealth of experience and knowledge, and it will be a great environment for Elias to learn and grow in.

I’ve had the opportunity to work with Elias a couple of times now, both at Sebring. He’s a very quick study—and a quick driver, too! Even though this is his first time in the 992 Cup car, he’s already up to speed and working on the finer points to his driving.

This week will be an exciting one, since Elias will take his first green flag in IMSA racing, and we’re hoping to get the season off to a great start. With a 40-car field of identically prepared race cars, it’s going to be quite a season. The series goes to some exciting, challenging circuits, too, including the Miami Grand Prix with Formula One and the Long Beach Grand Prix.

I’m looking forward to working with Elias and the JDX team this season, and I have high hopes for the week ahead as we kick things off here in Sebring!
