This past weekend was the midway point of the Carrera Cup season, and it took place at Road America during the NASCAR event there. Once again, we had some gorgeous weather on tap, albeit warmer than earlier in the season, and lots of fans turned out for the NASCAR spectacle.

The JDX team got off to a great start, and the drivers in the championship hunt qualified second and third. Unfortunately, 17-year-old Elias De La Torre had some qualifying misfortunes that relegated him outside the top 10 for the starting grid.

Both of the Carrera Cup races included some drama, with the first race being shortened due to an incident and the second race having several yellows throughout the 40-minute sprint. In both races, however, Elias was able to advance several positions, bettering his qualifying spot by a handful of places to put a positive cap on the season’s halfway point. He’s had a great string of clean races, and this is really helping not only his championship points but also his growth on the steep learning curve that Carrera Cup competition presents.

The JDX team also came away with a podium result to close out the first half of the season, with Alex Sedgwick finishing second in race one.

Next up for the team is a bit of a break for the month of August, as their next event doesn’t happen until Indianapolis in mid-September, when they will be running with IMSA once again.

In the meantime, I’ll be staying busy, and I’ll be back up at Road America soon! Between IMSA’s event there and other series, I’ll be at that track quite a bit over the next few weeks. I’m excited for the month of August, when I’ll be on the road every weekend, and I’m looking forward to what’s ahead.
