I had a great time last week working with two longtime clients, Rob Trollinger and Reg Williams. Rob just got a brand-new GT4 RS Clubsport to campaign in the Sprint Challenge series this year. He had his first race with the car at Sebring, and last week we headed to Virginia International Raceway for testing. It’s a track Rob knows extremely well, making it a great place for him to further learn the nuances of the car and to get more comfortable with it.
The GT4RS is absolutely incredible in that—although it’s a GT4-spec car—it’s delivered with a 500hp engine. In GT4 trim, it’s de-tuned, but for Sprint Challenge, it’s allowed to run the full 500hp, which makes its performance potential quite impressive.
It was a successful day of testing at VIR, and Rob continued on throughout the week there with further refinements to his skill with the car.
After my day at VIR with Rob, I headed to Road Atlanta to join Reg Williams for the next round of the International GT Championship in his GT3R. It was Reg’s first race of 2024, and even though it’s the same car he campaigned last year, it has a totally new livery.
We managed to get lucky with the weather, because we had a beautiful day of testing before rain rolled in the next afternoon. That timing still allowed us to get in qualifying and to not miss any of the races during the weekend. Although it was damp with drying conditions for race one, it was a successful day with a podium result for Reg. On Sunday, we shared driving duties in the one-hour enduro, and we had a great time together en route to another strong podium finish.
All in all, it was a fantastic first outing of the season for Reg, and I’m excited to join him again at Road America this summer. In the meantime, I’ll be switching gears next week as I head to the West Coast for the first time this season for the start of the 2024 SRO Championship.
