This past weekend was the second event of the SRO World Challenge season at Circuit of the Americas. I had just recently visited COTA for a test with Apex, so I really felt mentally dialed in to the track there in Austin!
I was excited to be working with RVA Graphics Motorsports in their three-car effort in GR Cup in addition to continuing to coach Anthony Geraci’s Supra GT4 program, which is now under the RAFA Racing banner.
It was a unique event format for the GT4 America class, as it was their only three-hour enduro on the schedule this season. This presented a twist to the typical race strategy and pit stops, because it had to include tire changes and fuel refills by the team.
Speaking of the team, both the RAFA Racing crew and drivers executed flawlessly throughout the three hours. We were able to capitalize on some timely strategy calls that netted the team a third-place result. This keeps the perfect podium streak alive for Anthony and co-driver Kenny Schmied. They have finished top-three in every race so far this season!
I was really proud of the entire effort, as we evolved not only the driving nuances but also the car’s setup throughout the week, which really shined in the three-hour contest.
On the RVA Graphics Motorsports side, it was a bit of an up and down weekend, with fantastic qualifying efforts by the team, putting two cars in the top five. But as luck would have it, they came up short of a podium result in both races. The good news is that the series is back in action at Sebring in just a few short weeks, and I’m looking forward to working with both teams as they continue striving for success.
