The Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion at Laguna Seca is upon us, and I am thrilled to be a part of the action with the Mazda Heritage Collection once again. This event means so much to myself and to Mazda, who is celebrating its rich motorsports history. This is an opportunity to showcase that racing legacy in front of the thousands of fans who turn out each year for this iconic event.
This year, the Reunion is celebrating the JDM (Japan Domestic Market) and the rich history of Japanese autos. This not only embodies Japanese cars but also anything powered by a Japanese engine, so we’ll get to see an impressive display of Indy cars that have used Japanese power plants over the years.
Specifically, for Mazda, they will be campaigning a couple examples of four-rotor prototypes from LeMans, including an extremely rare, special appearance from the winning 787B prototype from the 1991 24 Hours of LeMans. This car has been shipped all the way from Japan for this event, and not only will it be on display, but it will be running some demonstration laps throughout the week, as well.
I have the pleasure of racing the white-and-blue liveried 787 prototype this week, which underwent a full tub refresh prior to The Mitty at Road Atlanta this past spring.
