Finally! Mazda MX-5 Cup is back in action! After a long hiatus in the 2026 schedule, the series took to Mid-Ohio during the IMSA event there, with a full field of 40 cars. This season marks the largest average number of entries in series history for this current era of the car, dating back to 2016.

The momentum of the series is at an all-time high, and it shows in the incredible racing and competition that we witness at every event. At Mid-Ohio, the top half of the field was separated by a mere one second throughout the on-track sessions, which created some amazing racing! In race one, which was nearly a full green-flag race for 45 minutes (we had just one lap of yellow), we had absolutely amazing final laps.

We saw second-time winners for the first time this season. Jeremy Fletcher came home as the winner in race one, and Justin Adokonis won race two. That victory propelled Justin squarely into the championship points lead. This event at Mid-Ohio also tightened up the Rookie of the Year standings, where we saw a new leader emerge.

With a race every month from now until the season finale at Petit LeMans in October, the championship is just shaping up, and it will be a busy, exciting summer. Now, teams are preparing to travel north of the border for the next round at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park (or Mosport, as a lot of us still call it!).
